by  Robbie Miller Kaplan

It's summertime and when the sky is a brilliant blue and the sun warms your skin, it's easy to put your career plans on hold until Fall. But, career opportunities occur in all seasons and it pays to be prepared in case your encounter the following:

1. A colleague just hears of a fantastic opportunity that is a perfect fit for you, but the job closes the next morning.

2. On Tuesday you learn a manager within your organization has resigned and this leaves open a promotional opportunity for you. It will be advertised to the public on the following Sunday.

3. You return from a two-week vacation and find an opportunity to bid on a highly desirable contract. It is due in a week and requires a copy of your recent resume.

4. You are surfing the Internet and locate a job that really interests you. It requires that you paste an ASCII copy of your resume in the appropriate box.
5. A colleague alerts you to an organizational plan to upgrade several positions within your company. They suggest that you demonstrate your accomplishments and level of responsibility to the management team.
6. You are asked to speak at a conference and they need a short biographical description for the program.

7. You plan to pursue a graduate degree and need to detail your professional experience.

8. Shortly before you appear to speak at a conference you are asked to give a few words about yourself for an introduction.

9. You are seeking professional certification and must document your educational and professional qualifications.

10. You open the business section of the newspaper and learn that your business is sold, acquired, sued, merged, downsized, failing to yield a profit, or experiencing grave losses.
