Fax Email or Snail Mail?

by Robbie Miller Kaplan

Should you transmit a resume by fax, electronic mail, or snail mail? The most appropriate way to transmit a resume is to follow employer directions. If an employer requests that you forward your resume via electronic mail, you will need to convert your resume into ASCII text, remove all special effects, allow a 65 character margin to avoid premature line wraps, and allow space to separate sections. If the employer requests your resume to be sent via a fax, set your fax machine at fine mode, use an excellent copy, and fax your resume with a cover letter. Use the postal service when the employer gives you just a street address. Should you transmit a resume by fax, electronic mail, or snail mail?
